Generation I

Sadho Singh

ਸਾਧੋ ਸਿੰਘ

of Ahlu

b. 17th century

The head of the family stem. Remembered in the Sikh tradition as a devout follower of the Gurus. From his village of Ahlu, near Lahore, his descendants took the name Ahluwalia — the name that would carry through to the throne of Kapurthala and, through the marriage of about 1812, into the Behra line.

Tradition
Traditional accounts carry the ancestry further back, to the Bhatti Rajputs of Jaisalmer. Griffin recorded that claim but doubted it. It remains a matter of family tradition rather than record.
