The Behra JagirA genealogy of the Sardars of Fatehabad
Generation VII

Nawab Bhag Singh

ਨਵਾਬ ਭਾਗ ਸਿੰਘ

Ruler of Kapurthala, 1783–1801

before 20 October 1746 – 10 July 1801

The pivot of this genealogy. Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, having no surviving son, designated Bhag Singh his successor; the two sons-in-law contested the right in 1783 and failed. He ruled Kapurthala for eighteen years. Of his three children, the son carried the throne and one daughter carried the blood into Behra: through her, every later generation of this family descends from him, and stands as blood-cousin to the Rajas and Maharajas of Kapurthala down to the present day.
Father
Sardar Ladha Singh
Children
Raja Fateh Singh Ahluwalia, Daughter of Nawab Bhag Singh, Şehzade Bibiji … Sahiba
Conflict
The manner of his death is unresolved. One compilation records death from an infection of the foot at Kapurthala Fort on 10 July 1801; a tradition holds that he was killed at Phagwara, avenged by Fateh Singh’s seizure of that town.
Note
Counting Sadho Singh as the first generation places Bhag Singh in the seventh and Jassa Singh in the fifth. The document calls them cousins; on the chart’s own indentation the relationship is more distant than that word usually implies. Worth checking against Griffin’s table.
