Rais · farmers’ leader · a founder of the Bharatiya Kisan Union
1924 – 1990
Rais Sardar Ravi Sher Singh
Second son of Rais Sardar Dyal Singh, born at Fatehabad. A renowned politician and agriculturist of his day, named in the family record as a founder of the Bharatiya Kisan Union. He died at Fatehabad in 1990. With his brother Charanjit Singh he turns the family from a jagirdar house into a farmers’ one — the old landholding recast as advocacy for the cultivators of the Manjha.
His part in the union, and the family tradition of the fight for assured prices (MSP) for the farmers of Punjab, await his obituaries of 1990 in The Tribune and Punjabi Tribune and the union’s own records.
