Rais Sardar Dyal Singh at the Chiefs’ College, Lahore
Born 1896, the son of Sardarni Radha Kaur of Kasur. Educated at the Chiefs’ College, Lahore — the school of the Punjab aristocracy — he married Sardarni Jaswant Kaur of Kapurthala, a further match with the capital, and had three sons and six daughters. He is the hinge of the modern family: every living member of the line descends from him. He is photographed with Lala Jagat Narain, and in a family group with his mother, his wife, the Tikka Sahibs and the Şehzades.
